After far too long of a bringup, I finally upgraded my desktop system at work to 2.6.27 and for that to work, I had to upgrade the mtx driver too, so, here it is (the list of changes):<br />
<br />
<pre>
1.4.6.2:
  * Please note: This is a quick-and-dirty fix just to get this driver to
    compile on newer kernels and to fix the most annoying bugs.
  * Added support for Linux kernel 2.6.26 and 2.6.27
  * Fixed a compiler warning in mtx_drv.h
  * Fixed an issue where having more than 3GB of RAM on a 64bit system crashed
    the driver (solution inspired by Matrox)
  * Fixed the installer script to properly install the latest driver on newer
    X.Org X Servers instead of the oldest one
</pre>
<br />
As stated above, this is just a q'n'd release, I hope I'll have some time soon to fix the page_fault interface and whatever else has changed since 2.6.26.<br />

Everyday I browse the <a class="external" href="http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/corpo/support/drivers/driverList.php?list=5">Matrox driver listing</a> on their website to check for official driver updates. I did so yesterday and the day before too, but there were no newer drivers for Linux available.<br />
So it seems that I definetly need some looking glasses, because today I found the long promised 1.4.6 version of the MTX driver with a release date of "Mar. 12, 2008" on their site.<br />
Anyhow, feel free to give this driver a try (you'll find the download links below) and report success or failure in my forum please until I'm able to give them a try.<br />
Out of the release note I can see some interesting new things and features I definetly need to investigate on Monday:<br />
<ul>
  <li>Support for the new P690 cards!</li>
  <li>Includes a beta Matroxconfig (GUI!) tool</li>
  <li>QHI (Quad Head Independent) support!</li>
  <li>A strongly rewritten documentation that looks quite well at the first glance</li>
  <li>A new X Server extension (MTXCFG) for the Matroxconfig tool</li>
  <li>Pseudo-Xinerama support!</li>
  <li>They clarified in the release notes that XGL/AIGLX as well as RandR is not supported by the driver</li>
</ul>

<strong>ChangeLog:</strong>
1.4.5.1:
  * First unofficial driver release based upon the 1.4.5 core
  * Reintroduced this ChangeLog file and moved it to the top of the
    extracted driver archive
  * Reintroduced the file "make.sh" in the driver root
  * mtx_agp.c:
    - Removed the 'strucure' typo again
    - Removed the 'cleanup:' jumpmarks as they are only used once
  * mtx_os.c:
    - Reintroduced the 'memset before check' bugfix
  * mtx_strintf.c:
    - Reintroduced the 'memset before check' bugfix
  * mtx_drv.c:
    - Reintroduced pci_register_driver/pci_module_init compatibility update
    - Added unofficial version output
  * mtxversion.h:
    - Added unofficial version
  * install.sh:
    - installs the v4l module automatically again

1.4.5:
  * Official Matrox release.
    I don't know what Matrox has changed in 1.4.5, but I recognized a
    few things that don't work anymore or have changed in behaviour:

    - They added a file called x86_32 resp. x86_64 with no content to
      specify the architecture of the driver installer package
    - They added a file called version.txt containing the version of the
      driver
    - They updated install.sh (shrinked it down from 3089 to 803 lines) so
      please have a look yourself about what has changed. Currently, I just
      recognized two things:
        o The v4l driver doesn't get installed automatically
        o The installer automagically installs the oldest mtx_drv.so if
          it has troubles in detecting your X version. This usually applies
          to all Debian based distributions which introduced the new Xorg
          modular versioning scheme (e.g. 1.3.0 instead of 7.3.0).
    - They made warnings out of most AGP related error messages instead of
      looking at the cause (sigh)
    - They changed the wording of some error- and informational messages
      in the parhelia library ("Cannot stop Matrox xform" vs. "Cannot stop
      features")
    - They managed to break switching between X and a running framebuffer
      enabled console (with 1.4.4 that used to work flawlessly, now with 1.4.5
      you need to stop the X server before you can work at your text console
      again)
    - In some places they dropped backwards compatibility to older kernel
      versions as well as removed forwards compatibility to 2.6.22 f.ex.

<strong>ChangeLog:</strong>
  * Corrected the wording in the installer when a newer Xorg version is
    detected that is not directly supported by a precompiled mtx_drv.so to
    avoid confusion
  * Some small cleanups in the installer to prevent it from moving files
    that aren't there and therefore to reduce error messages during
    installation
  * In 2.6.22-rc2 the symbol "pci_module_init" has finally been removed, now
    the mtx driver takes care about that
  * Added two small patches from forum user "dagnygren" fixing bugs regarding
    memory allocation
  * Added a small helper file called "make.sh" to only build the Matrox
    Kernel module instead of installing the whole beast

<strong>ChangeLog:</strong>
  * Unfortunately, I broke 1.4.4.7 for kernel versions before 2.6.18 with
    the change from SA_SHIRQ to IRQF_SHARED (as mentioned in 1.4.4.5).
    Fixed that now, should work again.
  * Added some descriptive text to the V4L installer routine when the driver
    doesn't get installed because it's already installed to better separate
    the outputs from X driver installation and V4L driver installation

I have to admit, that my Change Management (according to <a class="external" href="http://www.itil.org">ITIL</a>) was not the best for 1.4.4.6. The installer script contained typos :-/<br /><br />
Therefore I took the opportunity to add some additional changes to 1.4.4.6 and
am coming up with 1.4.4.7 now for you. I always wanted to implement an additional function to install.sh, that does automatically install the already available v4l driver for the Matrox cards and now it's done.<br />Additionally, I finally wrote up a ChangeLog file with all previous changes to the driver and added it to the docs directory.<br />

<strong>ChangeLog:</strong>
  * As 1.4.4.6 has undergone my perfect change management, it was broken :-/
  * Fixed a typo in an awk call in install.sh
  * Added the installation of the v4l driver to install.sh
  * Modified mtxversion.h and mtx_drv.c to show the real unofficial version
    of the mtx driver in dmesg
  * Renamed the v4l subdirectories from "M_N_O" to "M.N.O" just like the
    xserver subdirectories
  * Created and added this ChangeLog file to the docs directory

Well, currently only a few of you have already downloaded 1.4.4.5 and I'm coming up with 1.4.4.6 here right now.
Today I got an e-mail from a guy telling me that Xorg 7.2.0 is out for Gentoo and that 1.4.4.5 can't be installed
on Xorg 7.2.0 as it is the case for all future Xorg versions that will come.<br />
So to finally get rid of this nasty issue I added a small part to the installer that does automatically
install the latest available mtx_drv.so version if the X version is newer than the supported ones.<br />
<br />
As always, if there are any issues with this driver release, please tell me about your experiences in the <a class="external" href="http://matrox.tuxx-home.at">Unofficial Matrox Technical Support Forum</a>.<br />

<strong>ChangeLog:</strong>
    * Added the ability to support future Xorg versions automatically to install.sh
      so Xorg 7.2.0 should be supported with this release.
    * Fixed the "find /usr and delete all libGL* files without further notice" issue
    * Replaced the readme.txt with an updated one that was modified by me and some forum members
    * Renamed the directories below the xserver subdirectory from "M_N_O" to "M.N.O" because
      the former version was always useless

release of the Matrox Parhelia driver doesn't compile on 2.6.20 I was having
